ABS sensor introduction:
As one of the most important safety systems in automobiles, the ABS anti-lock braking system was originally developed by Bosch and was first used on Mercedes-Benz in large quantities. After years of development, ABS and ESP complement each other and have become indispensable safety equipment in automobiles. The main function of the ABS system is to prevent the wheels from being locked when the car is on the brakes, and to avoid the occurrence of slippage and tail drift. The ABS system generally consists of a control module, a master cylinder, an oil pipe and an ABS sensor. As the most important sensor in the ABS system, there are a total of four sensors in the whole car, which are installed near the bearings on the inside of the four wheels, that is, on the horns.
ABS sensors have many functions, roughly as follows:
First of all, the ABS sensor is used in conjunction with the anti-lock braking system. When the vehicle brakes, the ABS sensor will detect the speed of each wheel, and can quickly determine whether the wheel is in a locked state, and transmit the signal to the ABS control module. If the wheel locks up, the control module will make the master cylinder reduce or cut off the braking force of this wheel through the form of solenoid valve, thereby preventing the lockup. This is one of the most important functions of the ABS sensor. At the same time, the speed of most models is also detected by the ABS sensor.
Secondly, the ABS sensor also has the role of tire pressure monitoring, mainly on models with indirect tire pressure monitoring. Because the indirect tire pressure monitoring uses the ABS sensor to compare the rotation times of the four tires, if the tire pressure is too high or too low, then its rotation times will definitely be different.
Finally, the ABS sensor also has the function of monitoring whether the tire screws are loose, that is, the wheel loose warning function, which is mainly found in Volkswagen Audi and other models. It senses the vibration of the tire through the ABS wheel speed sensor. After the screw is loosened, the tire vibration frequency will increase. The ABS sensor will transmit the data to the ESC control unit, and the ESC control unit will trigger an alarm according to the vibration frequency.
Generally speaking, after the ABS sensor is damaged, the vehicle's driving instrument will have faults such as ABS fault light, anti-skid fault light, tire pressure fault light, etc., and the relevant fault codes are stored in each control module.
